Get The Day Of The Week From A Date

Let's say you have a date 22-Sep-08 in cell A1 and you want to determine the day of the week.

OPTION 1:
The formula =WEEKDAY(A1) will return 2 (the 2nd day of the week). This would be useful if you want to do calculations based on the day of the week.

OPTION 2:
If you'd like to return the name of the weekday, use this formula:
=CHOOSE(WEEKDAY(A1),"Sun","Mon","Tue","Wed","Thu","Fri","Sat")

WEEKDAY(A1) will evaluate to 2, and CHOOSE will find the 2nd item in the list.

OPTION 3:
You can also use the TEXT function to get the name of the weekday from a date.

Assuming that the date in cell A1 is 22-Sep-08. In another cell, enter =TEXT(A1,"ddd") and you will get "Fri". If you enter =TEXT(A1,"dddd") you will get "Monday"
