QUICK TIPS
************************************************************
---------------------------
Copy and Paste Even Quicker
---------------------------
Did you know that there's even a quicker way to copy and past
than Edit/Copy and Edit/Paste? First, select the cells you want
to copy. Then hold down the CTRL key and, with the cursor
positioned over the edge of the selected range of cells so the
cursor changes to a white arrow, drag (left mouse button) the
cells to the location where you want to copy them. Let up on the
mouse button, then let up on the CTRL key. That's it!
-------------------------------
Viewing Your Worksheet Formulas
-------------------------------
There may be times when you may want to display the formulas in
your worksheets. For one thing, it's a great way to spot check
your worksheets for formula errors. When you have a complicated
worksheet that has gone through many revisions, it is likely
that some errors will creep in that may not be so obvious on the
surface. A good habit to get into is periodically viewing your
formulas to ensure they are correct.
To quickly display your formulas, press CTRL + .
The single quote is on the same key as the tilde (~). Don't use
the key that has the double quote. Press the same key sequence
return to normal view.
As you look down a column that is supposed to contain identical
formulas, incorrect formulas will stand out like a sore thumb.
(NOTE: This is one of those tips where you would be well advised
to save your work before experimenting with it.)

"HOW TO EXCEL" MINI-TUTORIALS

---------------------------------
How To Troubleshoot Long Formulas
---------------------------------
How many times have you had long formulas that didn't give you
the answer you were looking for? Sometimes it can be difficult
to determine where the problem is.
Here's a tip I use when working with long formulas.
In the Formula Bar (the white area directly above the column
headings and to the right of the equal sign) drag the 'I-beam'
cursor to select part of the formula. Then press F9.
When you do this, only the selected portion of the formula is
evaluated. This will help you determine which part of your
formula is the problem.
IMPORTANT! When you're done, remember to hit the ESC key to get
your original formula back. If you accidentally press Enter,
your formula will now include the evaluated portion as a fixed
value. You'll have to use Edit, Undo (CTRL+Z) to get back to
your original formula.
----------------------------------------------------
How To Insert Time and Date Stamps In Your Worksheet
----------------------------------------------------
Anytime you need to insert the current time or date into your
spreadsheet here's the quickest way to do it.
(1) For the current date press CTRL+semicolon.
(2) For the current time press CTRL+SHIFT+semicolon
(3) For both current date and time in a cell press
CTRL+semicolon, then press the SPACEBAR, then
CTRL+SHIFT+semicolon, then ENTER.

SPREADING THE WORD
************************************************************
Currently this newsletter is reaching satisfied readers in:
Canada, USA
There are tens of millions of other Microsoft Excel users all
over the world. The vast majority of them have a very limited
knowledge of Excel's capabilities. My goal is to share this
information with everyone I possibly can and help them to
benefit from Excel's lesser know capabilities.
Francis, please help me spread the word about my newsletter. If
you know other Excel users, please tell them about "Spreadsheet
Tips From An Excel Addict". You can forward this email to them
or, if you'd like to qualify for my T-Shirt Contest, go to my
website http://www.theexceladdict.com and use the Refer A Friend
link to let them know. I'm sure they'll
appreciate it.
NO SPAMMING! Please refer only people you know personally and
who use Microsoft Excel and could benefit from this newsletter.
PLEASE NOTE: Before you forward this newsletter to anyone else,
first delete the Unsubscribe Link at the bottom of this
newsletter. You wouldn't want someone to 'accidentally' remove
your name from my mailing list, would you?

BONUS "NON-EXCEL" TIP
************************************************************
-----------------------------------------
Quickly Switch Among Windows Applications
-----------------------------------------
If you are a multitasker like me you probably find yourself
switching among several Windows applications you have open all
at the same time. Heres a great Windows shortcut that,
surprisingly, many are not aware of.
Hold down the ALT key and press TAB, you will see a list of all
open programs. While still holding down the ALT key, repeatedly
press the TAB key until the program you want to switch to is
selected. Then release both the TAB and ALT keys and that
program's window will pop up. To return to the previous
application, just press ALT+TAB again.
This is one of those shortcuts Ive been using for years and
assumed everyone else also used. But its surprising how many
Windows users aren't even aware of this. If you haven't used
this shortcut before, try it, this is one that definitely make
things a lot easier for you.
