EDITOR NOTES
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi ,

I hope you're having a great summer. I've been pretty much
absorbed with soccer for a good part of my time. As I mentioned
to you a few weeks ago, I am coaching a girls under 12 all-star
soccer team http://www.TheExcelAddict.com/soccer/images/36.jpg.
All the practicing seems to be paying off. We hosted an
invitational tournament last weekend and won four straight games
and captured the gold medal. I was so proud of the girls. Our
big provincial tournament is in mid-August and by then we hope
to be in top form.

, I'm really excited to announce a new contest
that
I think you'll want to get in on. I call it "The Biggest Bank
For The Buck" contest. See below for details.

I'll be on vacation on Prince Edward Island (Canada) for the
next week and a half but you won't miss out on my Excel tips.
I've got more great tips ready for you. I just need to get
access to the Internet to send them to you. I'm sure they have
the Internet on Prince Edward Island, don't you think?

Have a great week and don't forget to check out the new contest.

To Your Success!
Francis Hayes (The Excel Addict)

EXCEL "QUICK TIPS"
----------------------------------------------------------------
Quickly Increase Your Value
---------------------------
Any time you find the need to change the values in many cells by
a certain amount or certain percentage, you can easily do it
using Excel's Paste Special feature. Say you want to increase
the values in each of those cells by 5%. Just enter 1.05 in an
empty cell and copy it. Select the values you want to change and
from the Edit menu select Paste Special. Now from the options on
the Paste Special dialog box select Values, Multiply and click
OK.

As you can see from the Paste Special dialog box, you can also
perform the same trick using Addition, Subtraction, and
Division.

Close All Excel Workbooks At Once
---------------------------------
It’s 5 o’clock and you’re in a hurry to go home. But first
you’ve got to go through the daily ritual of closing every Excel
workbook you have opened. Here’s a great tip for quickly closing
them all. When you hold down the SHIFT key while clicking the
File menu, you’ll see a new Close All menu item.

----------------------------------------------------------------
T-SHIRT CONTEST
----------------------------------------------------------------
Every month I am giving away a really cool t-shirt from
TheExcelAddict.com. You can sneak a peak at my website
http://www.TheExcelAddict.com

If you subscribed to this newsletter prior to this current
month, you can still get your name in for the draw each month by
helping me share this newsletter.

All you have to do each month is refer your friends and
associates to my website and newsletter through the Refer A
Friend link on my website. For each person that you refer, your
name will go into the draw. The more friends you refer, the more
chances you have of winning a t-shirt.

----------------------------------------------------------------
"HOW TO EXCEL" MINI-TUTORIALS
----------------------------------------------------------------
How To Hide Worksheets In Excel
-------------------------------
Did you know you can hide worksheets in Excel?

"Why would I want to do that?", you may ask. Well, sometimes you
may have worksheets that you do not use very often but they are
an important part of your workbook, such as tables containing
data referenced by other sheets. To prevent accidental changes
to these sheets, or just to reduce the number of sheet tabs you
have to navigate through, you can hide one or more of these
sheets from view.

Just click on the sheet tab you want to hide (hold down CTRL key
to select multiple sheet tabs). On the Format menu, select Sheet
and click Hide.

To unhide any hidden sheets, just click Format, Sheet, Unhide,
select the sheet you want to unhide and click OK.

How To Sum Values Based On A Condition
--------------------------------------
Everyone is familiar with Excel's SUM worksheet function but the
lesser known SUMIF function may be just what you need in certain
situations.

Once you see how it works you'll probably think of many uses for
it. So I'll give you an example and explain what it does.

Let's say you have a table containing sales data. In column A
you have your Dates. In column B you have your Sales Regions:
North, South, East and West. In column C you have your Sales
Figures.

How can you get a total of the sales by Region without messing
around with your original data?

Here's what you can do:

Somewhere outside of your table, enter the regions (North,
South, East, West) into four cells (let's use cells G2:G5 for
this example). Now, in cell H2 enter the formula
=SUMIF(B:B,G2,C:C) and copy that formula to the other three
cells.

There are three parts to this formula. The first part of the
formula tells Excel which range of cells you want to evaluate
(B:B). The next part is the Criteria (cell G2 containing the
value North) which you are asking Excel to look for in the
evaluated range. Finally, the third part of this formula tells
Excel what range (C:C) to use to find the related values
whenever your criteria is met.

Here's how the formula works. The formula looks down Column B
and for every value in that range that matches your Criteria, it
adds the corresponding value from Column C to the SUMIF total.
So if the value in cell B12 is North, the corresponding amount
from cell D12 is added to the SUMIF total. The SUMIF total will
be the total of all records in the table matching your criteria.

Note that you can use other ranges of cells - you don't have to
use whole columns. Also, you can enter criteria directly into
your formula, for example "<500"

You may already know that Google is the most popular search

Here's how to get it.

1) Go to http://toolbar.google.com/

will be automatically added to your Internet Explorer toolbars.
5) There are many great options available with this toolbar that
you may want to check out but for everyday searching, just type
in your search term and press your Enter key.

I love this because it saves me the trouble of having to go to
the Google homepage every time I want to do a search.

I hope you'll like it.
