EDITOR NOTES
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi ,

I'm sending this newsletter a little earlier this week. I'm off
to Prince Edward Island this morning for my summer vacation with
my wife and my two daughters. I'm really looking forward to some
fun and relaxation. Well, at least fun. ;)

Last week I announced a new contest for my newsletter readers.
It's called "The Biggest Bank For The Buck" contest. How would
you like to have your biggest time-consuming task in Excel
reduced down to a few clicks, for free? Check out the details
below.

I've got to take off now. I'll have more tips for you next week.
I just need to find a computer and an Internet connection in
PEI.

Enjoy your week. I know I will! :)

To Your Success!
Francis Hayes (The Excel Addict)

EXCEL "QUICK TIPS"
----------------------------------------------------------------
Aligning Objects With Cell Borders
----------------------------------
If you frequently use text boxes and other AutoShapes in your
workbooks, you may want to align these objects with the edge of
your cells. That can be a little tricky if you don't know the
shortcut. Just select the object(s) and hold down the ALT key
while moving them. You'll notice that they 'snap' to align with
the edges of the cells.

Simulating AutoSum With A Keyboard Shortcut
-------------------------------------------
We are all familiar with Excel's AutoSum button for quickly
summing values. There is also a virtually unknown keyboard
shortcut that performs the same function, for times when you'd
rather use your keyboard. Simply press Alt + =.

----------------------------------------------------------------
MY NEW "THE BIGGEST BANG FOR THE BUCK" CONTEST
----------------------------------------------------------------
I'm pleased to announce a new contest exclusively for my loyal
newsletter readers. Over the next two months I want you to
submit to me a time-consuming task that you do in Excel that you
would like to find a solution for.

I will personally review all entries and select the one that I
think could get "the biggest bang for the buck" with a solution
from The Excel Addict. The best part about this is, it won't
cost you a BUCK and you'll get the BANG absolutely FREE. One
lucky person will get a custom solution to their Excel problem
just for being a loyal reader of my newsletter. Submit your
suggestions to bigbang@TheExcelAddict.com

----------------------------------------------------------------
T-SHIRT CONTEST
----------------------------------------------------------------
Every month I am giving away a really cool t-shirt from
TheExcelAddict.com. You can sneak a peak at my website
http://www.TheExcelAddict.com

If you subscribed to this newsletter prior to this current
month, you can still get your name in for the draw each month by
helping me share this newsletter.

All you have to do each month is send an email to your friends
and associates, with a BCC to me, recommending my website and
newsletter. For each person that you refer, your name will go
into the draw. The more friends you refer, the more chances you
have of winning a t-shirt.

"HOW TO EXCEL" MINI-TUTORIALS
----------------------------------------------------------------
How To Format Your Subtotal Rows To Stand Out
---------------------------------------------
If you use Excel's Subtotals option as much as I do, no doubt
you know that the resulting subtotal rows are difficult to
distinguish from the surrounding data. To make them stand out
you need to change the formatting on these rows. Here's how you
can quickly format all of the subtotal rows at once.

1) Once you've subtotaled your data you'll notice 3 Outline
Controls (small buttons) on the top left of your worksheet.
2) Click the '2' button to collapse the outline so only the
   subtotals are visible.
3) Select the cells containing the subtotals.
4) Press the F5 key, click the Special… button, select Visible
   Cells Only and click OK.

Now that you have just the subtotal rows selected you can apply
your desired formatting (CTRL+1).

How To Easily Copy And Move Sheets Between Workbooks
----------------------------------------------------
Over time you'll probably find yourself reorganizing your Excel
workbooks. That's a good thing!

To make reorganizing a little easier, here are some shortcuts
for moving and copying sheets between workbooks.

1) Right-click on the sheet tab you want to move or copy;
2) Select Move or Copy;
3) From the 'To book' dropdown, select the destination workbook;
Optionally you can choose where, within the workbook, you
want to place the sheet. If you want to move the sheet,
retaining a copy in the original workbook select 'Create a
   copy' and then click OK;

Maybe you already knew that one. Well, here's another method I
bet you'll find even easier. This one's really cool!

1) Close all workbooks except for the ones you are reorganizing.
2) From the Windows menu select Arrange;
3) Select the Horizontal option button, and click OK.

Now you can simply drag and drop sheets between these workbooks.

Remember, when you want to copy a sheet you have to hold down
the CTRL key when dropping the sheet into the other workbook.
You will notice a small plus sign next to the sheet that tells
you that you are copying rather than moving the sheet. It's
always a good plan to have a backup copy of your workbooks
before making any drastic changes.

this email to them or, if you'd like to qualify for my T-Shirt

Please refer only people you know personally, who use Microsoft
Excel and could benefit from this newsletter.

PLEASE NOTE: Before you forward this newsletter to anyone else,
