EDITOR NOTES
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi ,

Well, I'm back from my vacation on Prince Edward Island. It was
great to get away for a while and although it involved a lot of
driving, it was worth it. My two girls loved it. Next time
you're looking for a great vacation destination, you might want
to consider Prince Edward Island. It really is a beautiful
place.

Well, it's back to work (and soccer - I've got tournaments for
the next two weekends) and I've got some tips this week that I
hope will make things easier for you.

Just a reminder that in my last newsletter I announced my new
"Biggest Bang For The Buck" contest for my loyal newsletter
readers. Check out the details below.

Think about it, wouldn't you like to have your biggest
time-consuming task in Excel reduced down to a few clicks, for
free?

To Your Success!
Francis Hayes (The Excel Addict)

EXCEL "QUICK TIPS"
----------------------------------------------------------------
Zoom Out For A Bird's-Eye View
------------------------------
When you need to select multiple cell ranges that extend out of
your current view it can sometimes be tricky selecting,
scrolling, selecting and scrolling without messing up your
selection and having to start all over again. It happens to you
too? It used to drive me nuts till I found a great little trick
to make this task as easy as pie. Just zoom out (View, Zoom) to
75%, 50% or even 25% to get a bird's-eye view of your worksheet
and begin selecting. Then, when you've got your ranges selected,
zoom back in.

Restrict Where To Find and Replace
----------------------------------
Typically when you use Excel's Find and Replace feature the
whole worksheet is searched. However, there may be times when
you want to restrict your search to a specific range of cells.
In those cases, select the range of cells before executing your
search.

----------------------------------------------------------------
MY NEW "THE BIGGEST BANG FOR THE BUCK" CONTEST
----------------------------------------------------------------
I'm excited to announce a new contest exclusively for my loyal
newsletter readers. Over the next two months I want you to
submit to me a time-consuming task that you do in Excel that you
would like to find a solution for.

I will personally review all entries and select the one that I
think could get "the biggest bang for the buck" with a solution
from The Excel Addict. The best part about this is, it won't
cost you a BUCK and you'll get the BANG absolutely FREE. One
lucky person will get a custom solution to their Excel problem
just for being a loyal reader of my newsletter. Submit your
suggestions to bigbang@TheExcelAddict.com

----------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------
"HOW TO EXCEL" MINI-TUTORIALS
----------------------------------------------------------------
Format Only Part Of The Text Within A Cell
------------------------------------------
Everyone knows how to apply formatting to text in cells using
color, bold, italics, font size, etc... You may not be aware of
this little trick that will give you new options for formatting
your Excel worksheets. Did you know that you can apply specific
formatting to just part of the text within a cell. For example,
you could apply a different color to each word in a string of
text within a cell.

1) Select the cell
2) Highlight the text within the cell that you want to apply the
formatting to
3) Apply the formatting as you normally do. Don't press Enter
yet!
4) Select and apply formatting to other parts of the text.
5) When you're done just press Enter.

How To Report Your Numbers In Thousands
---------------------------------------
If you need to report your numbers in thousands (i.e. $23,000 as
$23), heres how to do it without having to retype everything.

1) Select the cells you want formatted
2) From the Format menu select Cells
3) In the Category list select Custom
4) In the Type box enter 0, (That's a zero and a comma)

Note: To show your numbers as millions, just add another comma
to the custom number format in step 4 (i.e. 0,,).

Remember that the displayed result is just formatted to display
as thousands. The underlying value hasn't changed. If you use
these cells in calculations, the underlying values are used. For
example $52,600 formatted as above would appear as $53. So, if
you create a formula in another cell that divides this cell by 2
the result will be $26,300 and not 26.5.
