GREETINGS FROM CANADA Top

Hi Fellow Excel Addict,

Welcome to another edition of my newsletter. Did you try all of last weeks tips?

Many of the tips I share with you each week will be ones that you can use almost every day. Those are the ones that, over time, will significantly boost your productivity. Some other tips are ones that you may use less often, but they are the ones that will save you some frustration. When less common tasks come up that otherwise would take much longer, you'll be glad to know a quick and easy solution.

This week I have a couple of every-day tips and one once-in-a-while tip that will help you rise above most average Excel users. As I've often said, 'Try each of these tips, even if at first it doesn't appear relevant to your situation. You will probably think of numerous uses for a tip that you weren't even aware of before.'

As always, I love to hear comments and suggestions from my newsletter readers.

I hope you have a fantastic week.

To Your Success!
Francis Hayes (The Excel Addict)

Troubleshooting Formulas

When you create formulas, especially more complex ones, and you don't get the solution your expect, it can sometimes be tricky finding out where the problem is.

Here's a trick that I often use to pinpoint the problem.

Click in the formula bar or double-click the formula (in cell) to enter 'edit mode.' Drag to select only a portion of the formula that you want to evaluate. Press the F9 key to calculate just that portion of your formula. Continue the same procedure for each part of the formula.

Remember to press Esc or click on the X to the left of the formula bar to restore your original formula. If you accidentally press Enter, resulting in your formula being entered as partially calculated, you can simply click Edit, Undo (or CTRL+Z) to restore your original formula.

If the problem IS with your formula, this should help you quickly identify the problem.

EMPOWER AND IMPROVE Top
Over the past year I have discovered that in addition to increasing ones business knowledge and working on improving ones career it is equally important to work on improving ones self.

Jim Rohn says, "What you don't know WILL hurt you." I wish I had known this when I was younger. I can honestly say that, over the past two years, the wisdom of Jim Rohn has had a major positive affect on my life, both personally and in my business. If you are looking to improve yourself personally and/or professionally, Jim Rohn can help you just as he has helped millions of others around the world.

BONUS "NON-EXCEL" TIP Top
Email A Webpage Link To A Friend

I'll bet you often come across a webpage that you think might interest a friend or colleague.

Rather than open your email program, start a new email message and type out the webpage address (or copy the link from the Address Bar), there's a much quicker way to zip off your recommendation in a few seconds.

In Internet Explorer click on the File menu, move down to Send, and click 'Link by E-mail.' A new email message will open with a hyperlink to the current website already included. Just fill in your friend's email address and click Send.

Note that, on the Send menu you also have an option (Page by E-mail) to send the complete webpage by email but my experience with this option is that, if there are graphics on the page, many of them are missing when the email arrives.
