GREETINGS FROM CANADA Top

Glad to see you back for another edition of my newsletter. I hope you find this weeks tips helpful. These are tips and tricks I use regularly and it is my hope that they will also save you some time and/or frustration.

Please feel free to send me any tips that YOU use regularly that you think would benefit other Excel users so I can share them with all my newsletter readers.

Enjoy your week.

To your success,
Francis J Hayes (The Excel Addict)

P.S. VERY IMPORTANT Please remember to include "TheExcelAddict" in the Subject line of any email you send me. This will help it stand out in the flood of junk email I have been receiving lately.

Will you help me reach my goal?

As you know, I really love using Excel and sharing my tips with everyone who can benefit from them. My goal is to have my weekly tips going out to 4,000 readers by the end of this year. And I would really appreciate it if you could help me reach my goal by sharing this newsletter with all of your 'Excel-loving' friends and colleagues. You will be helping me and also everyone you share my tips with.

Go ahead, email this newsletter right now to three people you know who use Excel.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Yet Another Way To Copy

When you want to copy a cell or cells in Excel, typically you either select Copy from the Edit menu, click the Copy tool on the toolbar, right-click Copy, or use CTRL+C.

Did you know there was another way to copy cells that, in some situations, you may find even more useful?

Select the cell(s) you want to copy, hold down the CTRL key and position your mouse pointer over the outside edge of the selected range and drag and drop the cell(s) where you want them copied.

If you haven't tried this before, try it now. You'll be pleasantly surprised how often this trick will come in handy.

EMPOWER AND IMPROVE YOURSELF Top
In addition to improving ourselves professionally, we all need to balance that by also striving to improving our minds and bodies. In this section I want to share with you some of the resources that I have used and found beneficial. If you are looking for balance in your life I recommend...

Turning The Tables

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you had a table of data that you needed to switch columns to rows and vice versa?

There's no need to re-enter all that data. What you need to do is TRANSPOSE your data. Here's a Paste Special trick that will solve your problem in no time.

  1. Select the range of cells you need to transpose.
  2. From the Edit menu select Copy (or right-click Copy)
  3. Select a cell where you want your new transposed data to start.
  4. From the Edit menu select Paste Special (or right-click Paste Special) and select the Transpose option.
  5. Click OK
You may find that you have to do some minor formatting, such as adjusting column widths, to get everything looking perfect but you have just saved yourself a whole lot of work. That's what I call a great time-saving trick.

BONUS "NON-EXCEL" TIP Top
Clear Some Or All AutoComplete Information

Internet Explorer's AutoComplete is a feature that, as you enter information such as a web address or data in web forms, automatically completes the information by matching the letters you are typing with previous information you have already entered.

This information is stored in a file and, over time, these lists can become large and lose their usefulness. If you want to selectively delete some of these entries, or start with a clean slate and clear out all these AutoComplete entries, here's what you can do.

To clear all website addresses from your browser's Address Bar:

  1. From the Internet Explorer menu, select Tools, Internet Options. Alternatively, you can click the Windows Start menu, select Settings, Control Panel and then click the Internet Options icon.
  2. Click on the General tab and click the Clear History button.
  3. After you click Yes, it may take a minute or two to complete.
You cannot delete individual entries from the Address Bar. It's all or nothing.

To clear all AutoComplete history for web forms:

  1. From the Internet Explorer menu select Tools, Internet Options. Alternatively, you can click the Windows Start menu, select Settings, Control Panel and then click the Internet Options icon.
  2. Click on the Content tab and click the AutoComplete button.
  3. Click the Clear Forms button.
  4. Click the OK button when prompted.
  5. Click the next two OK buttons to close the dialog boxes.
To delete an individual AutoComplete entry in a particular web form, use the arrow keys to select it and press the Delete key.
